IC405 The Flaming star nebula in SL-RGB

Astrolog:

This image, of the Flaming Star nebula (IC405), is a test of processing with a synthetic luminance instead of a proper one.
All filters where shot from within the ultra light polluted Athens, and although the filter does a nice job attenuating the skyglow from street lights,
gradients do creep in the frames so the processing was quite tricky!
I will revisit the target armed with my narrowband filters :D

Astronomy object details:

The Flaming Star Nebula (also known as the IC 405, SH 2-229, or Caldwell 31) is an emission/reflection nebula in the constellation Auriga, surrounding the bluish star AE Aurigae.
It shines at magnitude +6.0 and it surrounds the irregular variable star AE Aurigae and is located near the emission nebula IC 410, the open clusters M38 and M36, and the naked-eye K-class star Hassaleh.
The nebula measures approximately 37.0' x 19.0', and lies about 1,500 light-years away.
It is believed that the proper motion of the central star can be traced back to the Orion's Belt area.
The nebula is about 5 light-years across.

The bright star AE Aurigae wich is called The flaming star, visible near the nebula center, is so hot it is blue, emitting light so energetic it knocks electrons away from atoms in the surrounding gas.
When an atom recaptures an electron, light is emitted creating the surrounding emission nebula.
A great target for astrophotography :D
